Benjamin A. Gianforti is an experienced trial lawyer and investigator. Prior to joining Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch, Ben was an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York from 2019 to 2025. In that role, Ben tried multiple cases to verdict and prosecuted a broad range of federal criminal violations. Ben was a member of the trial team in United States v. Roman Storm, a cutting-edge cryptocurrency prosecution against the co-founder of the Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixing service.
Ben led dozens of other investigations and prosecutions involving, among other things, fraud, money laundering, unlicensed money transmission, sanctions evasion, tax fraud, racketeering, art crime, and asset seizure and forfeiture. He also served as one of the Office’s Digital Asset Coordinators, offering trainings and coordinating within the Office regarding digital assets, and engaging with other U.S. Attorney’s Offices, Department of Justice components, and law enforcement agencies, regarding cryptocurrency.
Prior to his government service, Ben practiced for several years at a major international law firm, where he practiced white collar defense.
Ben received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 2005, his master’s degree from the London School of Economics in 2007, and his law degree from Columbia University in 2011. Following law school, Ben clerked for Judge Colleen McMahon of the Southern District of New York.
Ben is admitted to practice in the State of New York and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
